Evaluation Q4

Question 4.
How did you use technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

During construction, filming was completed with the use of the Sony HD camera. This piece of technology, for a start enabled me to film the video in HD to which is a slightly better resolution to the previous older generation of Sony Camera used last year. This better clarity made the video look more professional. The functions of the camera itself, such as the brightness and depth of field were easily manageable.
In year 12, the group and I were introduced to final cut pro. an editing software that enabled a further depth of control than the previous iMovie. This year I decided to stick with final cut pro over iMovie for the very same reasons only this year, the skill behind using final cut pro has developed so the editing station was easy to use and therefore editing was done fairly quickly. With the development of  these skills, it enabled me to plan and also film more creatively as I knew that I could do more than the previous year, for example Green Screen, key framing and split screen which I have in my arsenal to use.
Blogger was a forum that made it very easy to present all the technologies that I used and lay them out in an order which was easy to find. The Labelling was a feature of Blogger that made it perfect for finding the work quickly.
Youtube and other social media platforms such as Facebook were also key in my construction. Youtube enabled me to post my video to the internet and formed this platform from which I could then share to my blog, Facebook or other digital platforms. Web 2.0 was also present in my construction via Facebook as the interactive nature of the site enabled the audience to comment on what they liked, disliked and what they'd improve to which helped me out massively. I could then take this advice and criticism and adjust my work accordingly, for instance a recommendation to change the timing of the scene so that it matched the song's beat. The scene of the upside down feet walking is an example of me taking this advice into affect.
The construction of the logo was a difficult matter as my skills in Photoshop were not advanced, so to overcome this I used a programme called OneMotion. This program acts as an online version of Sketch, to which it is possible to hand draw, colour and literally create from nothing instead of manipulating photography. However when I compared the photoshopped piece and my OneMotion piece and brought this to peers, asking which one was better? The majority stated that they preferred the photoshopped edition.

Planning was monitored and made possible by essentially one thing. That thing being my mobile phone. This piece of technology (an iPhone 4s) has notes, calendars, reminders and most importantly access to messaging whether that be text or Facebook messenger. The phone was incredibly convenient as it was an almost permanent feature on me, making it easy for it to remind me of upcoming filming dates and other activities. Moreover, the social aspect of the phone enabled me to make plans with other actors present in the film. The female role was easy to think of from the beginning so planning with her was made easy. However, I struggled to find a guitarist who was available. The first couldn't attend any dates as he was busy with his exams. The second was busy working. I finally was able to message someone who was available and we filmed within two days of messaging.

The technologies chosen for the evaluation consisted of 3 technologies: Blogger, Prezi, and slideshare/ powerpoint. All these programmes made it possible to write down work and also show videos and images used to support points and presented them in a way that remained easy to understand but entertaining none the less.

Draft & Finished Music Video

This is my A2 music video draft.
I posted the unfinished video on my FaceBook Wall so that I could collect the opinions and advice of the audience. Some of the advice given seemed helpful, for example saying that the relationship of the scene and the song itself was off in that the timing was missing.
The advice collected was crucial for the development and adjustments put into my finished piece.

This is the finished result, with some small adjustments in the beginning scenes and, clearly, the last portion of the song.

Final Idea

Final Idea

The song I've decided to go with is Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams.
I feel this song would be a good song to cover as it's a song that is very focused on instrumentals and fits a general idea which is easy to film.

The principle of the song is that the guy is now alone and that he doesn't need anyone despite the video showing of binary opposites of a women and man standing together. But as the lyrics say, the man singing is walking alone.
The extract also features performance scenes which is stereotypical of a rock genre video. This is essentially all that the video covers in terms of what happens. There is no narrative and it's very much just the band singing, this is what I will change.

My idea revolves around a newly single guy just having fun by pretending he's singing the song.
The opening scene will feature only ambient sound as he walks past the camera into shot in which he will place some ear phones in. The music will fade in and begin as he puts in his ear phones.
As the lyrics come into play, the character (played by myself) will begin to mime acting like he is the artist when in reality he's just listening to the song and having a good time on his walk. His attitude towards singing and walking will be energetic as he simply doesn't care what people think and he's happy that he's left his girlfriend who was bad to him.
The relationship with the ex- girlfriend will be shown as a series of flashbacks throughout the video to give the audience some form of context.
Multiple shots of the scenery around him will be shown as well as an effort to add some variety to the video and keep it interesting, however these scenery shots must be quite arts'y to create that form of professionalism.
Performance will be shown throughout the film in a transparent form or focused in the corner to fill the frame effectively. Close ups and angled shots will be effective for showing off the skill of the musician. If I can, I would like to use a smoke machine to emphasise the  excitement and power of rock.

The video will be located in only 2 locations; a countryside pathway in Walsham and the auditorium in Thurston. These locations will allow me to have a walk and perform with no interference from pedestrians which suits the lyrics very well. The auditorium however is perfect for the performance side of the song, where my friend will play the guitar and be filmed on a stage with little lighting to create that rocky feel which is deemed necessary in all rock genre music videos.
